If you want to learn how to overcome the challenges of growing a business, you need to develop the ability to learn to make decisions and manage your time.
And as in sports, being able to go from the current stage in which your business is to the next step requires that you develop your skills to a new level.
Last week, on two different occasions, two people who I was preparing coffee at my house told me that they thought the coffee maker was slow.
I have to say I was surprised by the comment, especially twice in one week.
And it got me thinking.
The truth is that we use a traditional coffee maker.
We have tried the coffee that’s made with modern coffee machines that use the capsules for different types of coffee, and the truth is that we like better the coffee that we make at home.
But their comment made me think if maybe it was time to modernize the coffee maker and stop wasting time.
After all, nobody wants to waste time
Since I am an analytical person, the first thing I did was measure time. Was I really wasting time?
It turns out that it takes me approximately 5 to 6 minutes to make a coffee that usually lasts all day.
After measuring the time, I could feel a great relief
I told myself that if it was true that I was losing, then 5 or 6 minutes a day was not so terrible.
After a little more thought, I realized, for me, that time is truly acceptable.
The reality is that I love making coffee in the machine we have, and it makes me smile every day.
The reason I love it is because it’s a machine that we bought in one of our family vacations.
And it turns out that every time I make coffee, it indirectly reminds me of the great time we had on that specific vacation.
Not only that, but it also makes me think about future trips.
Every time I make coffee in that coffee maker, I feel grateful to feel free to work from anywhere in the world and, at the same time continue to dream big and be thankful for all that’s possible.
Thanks to the observations made by these two people, I was able to realize that there are certain activities during the day that fill me with energy, inspire me, and help me feel good.
Preparing coffee is one of those activities.
And when it comes to those activities, I can’t and should not save time, because it’s those activities that help me stay connected to my dream every day.
How to overcome the challenges of growing a business and stay connected to your dream
If we are honest, we can say that building a business is not a walk in the park.
Every day we have to face the ups and downs of the business, as well as our own ups and downs.
And learning to navigate that roller coaster of highs and lows is an important key that differentiates successful entrepreneurs from those who stagnate.
1. Why do you do what you do?
In other words, what is your why? When you have total clarity about your purpose, meaning why you do what you do, everything becomes easier.
Being connected to your purpose is what will allow you to move forward and overcome obstacles.
Being connected to your purpose and your dream is exactly what will help you make your dream come true.
How to know if you’re connected to your purpose?
When you are not clear about your purpose, it’s when you feel like giving up.
It’s when you feel tired and frustrated and can’t stop thinking about all the effort you are putting into something that is not giving you the results that you want.
If you identify with this, my suggestion is that you spend a little time thinking, why is your business so important to you? Try to think back to why you started the business in the first place.
2. How to make every day count
It seems that the only way to win in this game is to win every day.
What this means is that although things don’t always turn out as we expected, we still have the opportunity to learn lessons. Developing the ability to always find the lesson is precisely what allows you to win every day and make each day count.
Before continuing, I created an infographic that illustrates: How to overcome challenges of growing a business:
3. Surround yourself with people who understand your dream, believe in you and support you
This is perhaps one of the most important keys.
Human nature often makes us extremely critical of ourselves.
So critical that sometimes we give up before trying or even starting.
Another common problem is to seek the approval or support of your loved ones, and when you don’t get it, you feel defeated.
The huge difference that separates successful people from those who give up is that they know they seek help from people who have accomplished what they want to accomplish. People who believe in them and help them stay committed to their dreams. Having that support makes all the difference in the world.
Conclusion
It’s important that you check in with yourself and make sure that you are spending enough time to feel inspired and remember why you do what you do.
Spending time doing things that make you feel good is the gas you need to face the regular day-to-day challenges of your business and keep a clear vision of where you want to go.
As in life, having a business is not a race against time.
And learning to enjoy the process is more important than reaching the final goal.
